Introduction

HeritACT is a 3 Year New European Bauhaus funded project that activates heritage through engaging experiences towards sustainable development. The project involves 14 partners in 5 European countries.

The project's goal is to use 7 digital tools to integrate 9 heritage solutions in 3 pilot sites of Milan, Elefsina and Ballina.

Milan, Elefsina and Ballina will become living laboratories for urban transformation, with each site producing a series of different heritage solutions.

Ballina

In Ballina the project explores the potential of institutional buildings and sites to provide distributed centres for the EU Green Deal and the NEB in Irish towns, relating to the preservation of social, cultural, and artistic heritage and the integration of new communities.

Elefsina

In Elefsina the initiative aims to engage the city’s neighbourhoods in the cultural and urban planning initiatives, via innovative sustainable and participatory design actions, emphasising all sorts of ethnical, religious, cultural, economical and educational inclusion

Milan

In Milan the project focuses on farmsteads and aims to strengthen the ecosystem of people and cultural initiatives orbiting around each cascina by establishing ecological practices and collaborative design installations as applications of NEB principles.

The HeritACT Toolkit

As part of this project ACT have developed 2 digital tools SustainACT and Fund4ACT to support in the delivery of the 9 heritage solutions.

Fund4ACT

Fund4ACT is a strategic platform designed to tackle funding challenges for heritage projects by supporting community groups to demonstrate their competence and the impact of their proposed heritage actions in relation to the New European Bauhaus Compass. Fund4ACT is being used by the pilot sites to test potential additional fundraising streams from local businesses and individuals who are interested in pledging towards local heritage activation.

SustainACT

SustainACT is a tool for assessing and contributing to sustainable targets including the New European Bauhaus (NEB), European Green Deal (EGD) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It facilitates input from individuals and community groups in the design process, translating sustainability goals for a broad audience. SustainACT is being used by the pilot sites a sense-making activity to help participants to identify the proposed heritage solutions many potential impacts.

The HeritACT Toolkilt

Fund4ACT and SustainACT are just 2 of the 7 HeritACT tools which have created to engage citizens to reactivite their local culture heritage. Discover more at heritact-toolkit.eu

A Participatory Design Process

HeritACT follows an inclusive participatory design process throughout and follows three key stages of Co-recognition, Co-envisioning and Co-implementation. The project is currently at the co-envisioning phase with co-implementation of the 9 heritage solutions scheduled for delivery at the 3 pilot sites in 2025.
